Refurbished Black MacBook for $1,299.00

Apple is offering refurbished Black MacBooks for $1,299.00. That's almost 14% less than the original price. Savings of $200 aren't bad, but this all comes down to one basic question. Is a refurbished unit more likely to break than a new one?
Unfortunately there's no simple answer. In order for a unit to be sold as refurbished, it doesn't necessarily mean it has gone through extensive damage.
For notebooks, hard drives are often the first to go clicking (if yours is clicking, start backing up). Swapping the HD is a simple task and you won't even need to take apart the laptop to do it. Here's a quick video to show you how.
So, saving $200 because of a broken hard drive? Probably worth it. Saving $200 because the previous owner spilled coffee all over the keyboard? That's a different story. Unfortunately you'll never know what the true cause was, so you're basically taking a chance that the repair wasn't serious.
